Sharing best practice for clean, decarbonised and circular industrial processes

Industrial activities are impacting our environment, health and quality of life on a massive scale.

The revised Industrial and Livestock Rearing Emissions Directive (‘IED 2.0’) as amended by Directive 2024/1785, is the main EU instrument to reduce pollutant emissions into air, water and land, and to prevent waste generation from large industrial installations and intensive livestock farms.

An informal ‘consolidated version’ is made available here.

The updated rules further aim to boost decarbonisation and circularity, to support the transformation of the European industry towards the 2050 goals of climate neutrality, circular economy and zero pollution.

The period of 2025-2027 will be crucial for delivering on improved human health, environmental and climate protection, but will depend on ambition level during implementation at national level as well as the secondary legislation to be prepared by the European Commission.

Strengthened public access to key environmental data from industrial facilities are provided through the Industrial Emissions Portal (the Portal). The EU rules establishing the Portal (the European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register Regulation) have also been updated and replaced by the Industrial Emissions Portal Regulation (IEPR)

The EEB provides in [this briefing] our main assessment on opportunities ahead in relation to both instruments. Please check out the briefing for more details.
